Jazz on the Terrace - Friday May 2

What better way to welcome warmer weather than with great jazz, a cocktail, and the North Side's best view of the Chicago skyline? Jazz on the Terrace is every first Friday of the month. Female Baritone Saxophonist Juli Wood leads our Jazz series into Spring on Friday, May 2. She has entertained around the world at jazz festivals and clubs. A few of her favorites were: Skansen Jazz and Blues fest in Stockholm; Pori Jazz in Finland; Bent J's club in Aarhus, Denmark; Elo Jazz and Blues in Oulu, Finland; and Storyville Jazz Club in Helsinki. Her home is now in Chicago where she has led her own groups at : Andy's, Green Mill, Green Dolphin St., Pete Miller's, and Katerina's. Rounding out the Trio will be journeymen Demos Petropoulos on the Hammond B-3 organ, and Andre Beasley on drums.

Bach Beyind

BACH & Beyond Spring Chorale - May 4 3:00pm

The first of three 2008 concerts by the Bach & Beyond ensemble at the DANK-HAUS.
The ensemble welcomes Spring with J.S. Bach's D Minor Chaconne for solo violin featuring the orchestra's concert master Jon Eckhardt. Other works on the program include those by Daniel Purcell, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Vivaldi's large scale choral and orchestral masterwork Gloria.


The afternoon's selections will be presented in true Bach and Beyond fashion anchored by conductor and artistic director Scott Will leading from the harpsichord. Featured soloists include: sopranos, Sandra Cross and Nancy Pifer, alto, Cynthia Hill, tenor, Luis Galvez and cellist Martine Bennman.

Stammtisch ALL AGES SHOW - May 16

Join us for our monthly Stammtisch. See old friends and make new ones. Great German beer, great German food, great German gemütlichkeit.
This month - ALL AGES SHOW - German Techno Night -

Bring the teens, embrace your inner Dieter, escape to Terrace with drink if necessary DJ's mix old school Techno and current faves.

All events take place at the Historic DANK-HAUS at 4740 N. Western Avenue in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. 1/2 block from the Western station on the CTA Brown Line.

A reminder to everyone that the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:30pm is
the DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center advisory board meeting. Everyone
is welcome to attend and give their input and help us in providing
contemporary and relevant programing that fulfill our mission of
presenting German culture in a positive and relevant light to as wide
an audience as possible. If you would like to be involved in this
growing and dynamic community organization please join us at 4740 N.
Western at 7:30.

Our Monthly Stammtisch program is moving forward full force with great
local German-American bands providing free entertainment with the best
view of Chicago on the North West side, the DANK-HAUS Skyline Lounge.
Come join us, enjoy the camaraderie and find out about the wide array
of cultural and community based activities that we have going on.
The Stammisch is every third Friday of the month and always features
great live music for free and lots of fun for all. The Skyline lounge
features the best view of the city on the North West side.

MUSEUM OPEN REGULAR HOURS - The DANK-HAUS German Cultural
Center museum will be open 11-6pm on Saturday. In the Willy
Scharpenberg Gallery we are presenting - "Hamburg Emigration Port" a
chronicle of emigration from the port of Hamburg to America. This
wonderful exhibit tells the story of the trials and tribulations that
emigrants faced as they left their homeland for the promise of a better
life in America. In the Rough:Space Gallery we will be presenting
"Converging Histories" the works of two of the brightest stars in the
contemporary art scene Miroslaw Rogala and Rob Mazurek. As Chicago's
most progressive German organization, it is exciting and energizing to
see the interest and excitement the reopening of our museum has
brought. We are honored that such impressive artists have faith in our
organization and our vision to bring the very best high impact cultural
programming and the very best European talent to our neighborhood and
make the DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center the nexus of German culture
in Chicago.

Every 3rd Monday in our theater in the DANK-HAUS We will host a
contemporary German Movie night featuring Modern German Cinema with
English Subtitles. We can order in Pizza and will have cash concessions
available (soda, beer, pretzels, munchies).

The DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center is a 501c3 non-profit
organization. Incorporated in 1959, the DANK-HAUS German Cultural
Center has served the Lincoln Square Neighborhood for over 45 years,
presenting cultural events, teaching the German Language and providing
a facility for community activities. The Cultural Center is located in
The Historic DANK-HAUS at 4740 N. Western Avenue in Chicago - Just 1
block from the Western Avenue Brown line stop in the heart of Lincoln
