My introduction to the Trabi came in Nov. 1990, when because of a strike by the eastern rail workers I had to take a bus into Berlin. We were traveling at night, and when I stepped off the bus at a rest stop there was a burned-out Trabi in the parking lot. No one thought it a bit odd!
