Basically, two panels of three people gave brief discussions on really really neat stuff. Both the US and Germany are working on their own and together to reduce emissions and invest more in green technology with goals and deadlines of various percentages and years. The US leads the world in emissions and Germany leads in the EU. Germany has a special goverment mandated commitment to reduce emissions and make the country greener by 2020.
It was interesting to see the topic from a variety of well-educated perspectives, with a lot of optimism and good news (for once). I learned interesting things that were kind of obvious but then sort of "dawned" on me, like how new appliances and technology are by nature much more efficient today than those in the past, so that whenever we simply replace old stuff we are automatically contributing to making the world a better place. Also, our capacity to use solar and wind energy, as well as biomass energy, is like hundreds and hundreds of times greater than for non-renewable energies. It will be a loooong time before we are no longer dependent on those, but the potential is there for us to tap into so many of these resources. Now, as well, going green = making money, too, so that economic interest no longer conflicts with the concept of greening companies and products.
I thought it was really cool and I got to meet some DANK members who were there on their own business, and it was fun.
