Where in the World is Captain Bill

Hi folks,
I’m on another long adventure right now and thought to put some pictures on the blog to see if you can guess where this trip took me to.
See if you can guess.

If you guessed Rome, you guessed right.

After 1 ½ years I finally returned to Rome and there were some changes.  I am now flying there in a Delta Airlines uniform, staying in a new hotel but Rome has changed a little bit too.  My favorite hangouts on Piazza Navona have changed ownership.  No longer can I get a refreshing Forst bier in the afternoon at the café.  New owners just took over and only serve Peroni.  Forst is brewed using a German formula in Merano, Tirol and I think it is the best bier in Italy.  Also my other hangout, Bernini’s on the north side of the Plaza has changed owners.  No more samples of the best olive oil in Italy.  The previous owners had an olive oil business and they taught me a whole new taste of Italy.  This gourmet stuff I had never tasted in the US.   I will now have to search out new places but I will call my old friends in the future to see if I can get some of their olive oil the next time I go there.

I am sure that you will hear lots of hype about the latest movie starring Tom Hanks very soon.  Angels and Demons was filmed in mostly in Rome and I was lucky to be there for one of the shootings with my family and Hans & Kathy Wolf in August of 07.  When I read the book about 4 years ago, I was flying a lot of Rome trips that summer and was able to visit all the sites mentioned in the book.  What a thrill!  So I saw this poster in one of the churches that I visited, the Basilica dei SS. Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso, that showed an exhibit in the cellar under the church.  Unfortunately nothing in English but it let me to the crypts under the altar and I suppose that some of the filming was done in there since I doubt that the Vatican would let them film under St. Peter’s altar.  I tried to find something on the internet but nothing yet.  Can’t wait to see the movie though.

Well I’m off again so look for my next adventure.  By the way the pictures above are the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.  Must see places in Rome.  Some more pictures below.  Enjoy!
